Citroën Traction 'FFI' Forces Françaises de l'Intérieur 1944
The resistance fighters of the French internal army FFI (Forces Françaises de l'Intérieur) played an important role during the liberation. They had distinguished themselves from the moment of the Normandy landings by carrying out various actions ordered by the Allies, in order to shut down German communications. On 27 August 1944, the FFI revolt began: they gathered in the centres set up for this purpose and picked up the weapons they had been hiding since 1940 or dropped by the Allies. The FFI played a role in the liberation of Lille and Tourcoing. British troops bypassed these towns to pursue the retreating German soldiers.
