Mini Van Royal Navy
The Mini Van, launched in the 1960s, was a very popular small vehicle that offered an inexpensive alternative to a car. Its payload capacity of ¼ tonne made it popular with both private owners and people who needed a small commercial vehicle, which at the time did not have to pay sales tax. It was built on the longer Mini Traveller chassis and had no rear side windows.Another compromise to keep costs down was a simplified steel grille. This very attractive Mini Van, in dark blue with white lettering, was used by the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Careers Office which, according to the address on the side of the van, was stationed at 34 Queens Road, Brighton. It also carries a navy number plate 36 RN 62.
