Citroën's Citroën Ami series was launched in 1961 and remained in production until 1979. Sometimes in France, the Ami was called the Citroën 3CV.
Both the press and dealers ("concessionaires" at Citroën) strongly insisted on an estate version.
In 1963, Bertoni started working on the break.
Its introduction took place in August 1964, six months after Bertoni's death.
Soon the break sold much better than the sedan, resulting in a total produced number of 551,880 units.
As a special edition, the Club break can still be mentioned, with round, double headlights à la the American version, bumper strips, moquette on the floor, and generally a somewhat more luxurious version. It was available from the 1968 model year onwards.
