Thanks to a restoration project that began more than 30 years ago, The Tank Museum has raised its profile exponentially in that time, putting it on the world map as custodian of the world's most famous military vehicle and ensuring that this captured World War II German tank continues to attract many thousands of visitors to the beautiful county of Dorset. This model of the Tiger 131 is therefore a separate edition especially for The Tank Museum.
In 2013, the Tiger 131 made a big impression when it made a triumphant appearance in the feature film 'Fury', operating flawlessly on set and adding real historical authenticity to this wartime story. All too aware of this tank's incredible and enduring appeal to the public, the museum now organises regular 'Tiger Days', which attract thousands of visitors to the museum, all hoping for the sight and sound of the one and only Tiger tank driving anywhere in the world.
The Tiger 131 was the first German Tiger tank to be captured intact by Allied forces in World War II and, as such, was a real coup for the British.
Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger I turret number 131 was built at the Henschel tank factory in Kassel in February 1943 and was destined to become one of the few such powerful tanks sent to support the Afrika Korps troops fighting to stem the Allied tide in Tunisia.
