The Sd.Kfz. 251 (German: Sonderkraftfahrzeug 251) was a World War II German semi-cruiser developed from the Sd.Kfz. 11. The vehicle had been developed under the supervision of Heinz Guderian, a pioneer in Germany in mechanised and armoured warfare. He had learned from the Spanish Civil War, that soldiers were particularly vulnerable in their tanks in forests and urban areas.
Purpose of the vehicle was to transport a group of up to 10 infantrymen to the battlefield, while protecting them from enemy fire. The vehicle did not have a roof, which left the crew vulnerable to enemy warhead artillery like mortars. Test models and the first examples were assigned to the 1st Armoured Division, which used them during the advance into Poland in 1939.
Artitec ready-made models are handmade from resin and etched metal parts. Each model is hand-painted and sometimes lightly weathered. Each of these models is a unique collector's item.
